ANIMAL FARM

Animal Farm English Project - This project is utilized by Mary Sandfort at Saint Michael Lutheran School with 8th graders and integrates the use of technology with the study of the novel Animal Farm. A similar format could be followed for any other novel at various grade levels. Miss Sandfort uses this project before the class begins reading the novel to give the students an understanding of the various topics.

1.  Students are divided into groups of 3 or 4. Each group is assigned a topic that is discussed in the book.

2.  Each group is given 3 - 40 minute computer class periods to do research on their assigned topic. During these class periods students are encouraged to print important information as well as take notes and save picures, maps, etc. that will later be used in a power point presentation.

3.  Each group is given 3 computer class periods to contruct a Power Point Presentation for the class on their assigned topic. Each Power Point is to include the following:

Slide In Power Point
Slide 1        TITLE SLIDE:
                Topic, Group Members, Illustration (from the internet or scanned pictures)

Slide 2-6    INFORMATION SLIDES:
                Note Format, At least 2 illustrations

Slides 7-8    BIBLIOGRAPHY SLIDES:
                At least 3 sources, correct format

Grades are based on:
Readablilty - color, size, special effects
Information included
Illustrations included
Power Point uses transitions and build effects
All members of the group have speaking part during presentation
Correct format followed
Work was completed on time
