Spreadsheet Project #3: A Business Spreadsheet

Objectives:

·      Students will determine what type of business they would like to open.

·      The student will create an introductory word processing document explaining the type of business he/she will be using.

·      Students will create a spreadsheet containing:

  1. Products the business will be selling (3 minimum)

  2. Wholesale price of each item (see definition)

  3. Number of each item to be sold

  4. Retail price of each item (see definition)

  5. Sale price of each item (see definition)

  6. Number of items sold at retail

  7. Profit made on retail items

  8. Number of items sold on sale

  9. Profit made on sale items

·      Total profit made in business

NOTE: All calculations MUST be created using spreadsheet formulas. All formulas begin with an = sign and then use typical mathematical operations ( + - * / )

For our purposes these definitions will be used:

Wholesale Price: The cost to produce a product.

Retail Price: The suggested price for the product, designed to bring a reasonable profit.

Sale Price: A reduced price designed to maintain a profit but also sell more items.

Your final copy should include:

·         An introduction to your company and the products you hope to sell.

·         A spreadsheet showing all the information listed on the previous page.

·         A description of the strength of your sales and your business based on the data you create

·         EXTRA CREDIT OPTION: Create a chart or charts showing the profits of your company. (HINT cut and paste the data you wish to chart so it is located right next to each other on your spreadsheet for easy charting)

SAMPLE SPREADSHEET:

Note: This sample spreadsheet only shows one product that is being sold. Your project requires three different products, each with a wholesale, retail, and sale price.
