Introductory
Spreadsheet Project
Student Instructions:
1) Choose a topic
like: class pets, favorite food, color of eyes, favorite color, etc. Make sure
that this topic has the possibility for a variety of different responses but
that it is also a topic that would enable you to chart the data. Make sure you
register your topic with your teacher to make sure that we don’t have any
overlapping topics.
2) Survey your
class and collect the data.
3) Enter the data
into a spreadsheet. (Put the names of items on the top row, and put the number
of students in the second row.)
4) Click and drag
to highlight all cells with information.
5) Pull down the
Tools menu to Create a New Chart.
6) Decide what
kind of chart you want. (A bar graph usually works best for a survey.)
7) Click OK.
8) Make changes
and add labels. Figure out how to create a heading for this chart. Are there any
other tools you can use to dress it up? Make sure you customize your chart so
that it is labeled clearly and effectively.
9) Save your
spreadsheet and chart in your home area.
10) Open up a new
word processing document. Copy your chart to this new document.
11) Type a
description of your chart and the survey you just completed. Your final product
should fit on one page and contain both the chart showing your survey results
and your description.
